Maria Amante Crowned 2009 Santa Barbara Youth Leader

At a recent awards ceremony sponsored by the City of Santa Barbara’s Teen Programs, 29 outstanding youth leaders were honored for their academic achievements, community service, or for overcoming challenges. Dos Pueblos High School’s Maria Amante was selected to receive the 2009 Youth Leader of the Year Award because of her qualities in all three categories. Maria has more than 400 hours of community service, is a mentor in the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s “Quasar to Sea Stars” program, and has handled problems related to a difficult home situation with optimism and determination.
