Dos Pueblos High School had a successful run in the Capital Markets contests. One team went to the Los Angeles County competition on Wednesday and another team to the Orange County competition yesterday. The Los Angeles team took third in a close contest, and the Orange County team took first place against a very tough field.
Our Orange County champions (all juniors) are:
They each won $500 cash and a trip to New York. There we will be able to get on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, and they are currently arranging for the team to ring the closing bell and be interviewed by Bloomberg News while in New York. The team will travel July 5-7, 2009.
Los Angeles team members (all seniors) are:
Each student won $100.
Roland Lewin, economic teacher and team coach noted, “Students had to write a 1,500 word essay about movements in the capital markets during a 10-week trading period, and make a seven minute power point presentation about the current state of the economy, how it compares with the Great Depression, and then about either of the following: what got us in this mess or analyze different options to cure the recession and make recommendations to the Obama administration.”
