Following six months of consideration and recent expenditure cuts of approximately $4.4 million, at last night’s meeting the board of education adopted a budget for school year 2009-10. The new budget brings the districts’ general fund to an estimated $118 million.
One of the assumptions upon which the budget was built is ending interdistrict transfers in the secondary school district. With a reduction in state funding to schools, it is no longer feasible to provide services to students residing outside the district. It means that many of the students who are currently attending schools in the Santa Barbara High School District on an interdistrict transfer would, in school year 2010-11, return to their respective home district. The board will be discussing this subject at an August meeting.
