(Student transfer from one school WITHIN the Santa Barbara School Districts’ boundaries to another school WITHIN the districts’ boundaries)
The Santa Barbara School Districts’ Board of Education values the concept of neighborhood schools but permits open enrollment within the districts as resources are available. In order to transfer from one school to another (both schools located within the districts’ boundaries), parents must follow specific procedures for the selection and transfer of students among district schools in accordance with law, board policy, and administrative regulation.
Refer to Board Policy 5116.1, “Intradistrict Open Enrollment.”

Because of negative fiscal impacts, on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, the Santa Barbara School Districts’ Board of Education revised Board Policy 5117, “Interdistrict Attendance.”
The revised policy stipulates that the elementary and secondary districts will not accept interdistrict transfer students except in specific cases, as defined in Board Policy 5117.
The board’s decision to deny interdistrict student transfer applications into the Santa Barbara Elementary School District went into effect school year 2009-10. With the newly revised Board Policy 5117, the interdistrict enrollment changes will go into effect in the Santa Barbara Secondary District in school year 2010-11.
Refer to Board Policy 5117 “Interdistrict Attendance” as well as related, revised Admistration Regulation 5111.1 “District Residency,” and Administrative Regulation 5111.12, “Residency Based Upon Parent/Guardian Employment.”
