Santa Barbara Community Academy eligible for 2010 Distinguished School Award

Congratulations go out to the Santa Barbara Community Academy (SBCA) as the school is eligible for the 2010 California Distinguished School Award. The next step is completion of the application and validation process.

SBCA qualified for the award because the school made Adequate Yearly Progress, its Academic Performance Index score is above 795, the school made all growth targets schoolwide and for all numerically significant subgroups and, finally, the Academy met the criteria for Closing the Achievement Gap Category 2. As a school without numerically significant White or Asian subgroups, each of the Academy’s subgroups grew more than the statewide API growth for that group:

Subgroup: Hispanic/Latino-statewide growth greater than 17 points (Academy’s growth was 49 points)
Subgroup: Socio-Economically Disadvantaged students-statewide growth greater than 18 points (Academy’s growth was 45 points)
Subgroup: English Learners-statewide growth greater than 18 points (Academy’s growth was 73 points)

Congratulations to the Academy’s school community!
