At about 4:30 this morning, Cleveland custodian Stan Mize, who lives nearby, heard an alarm that he thought might be coming from the school. He immediately left home and headed to campus and the alarm was indeed on. There was smoke and fire in a sixth-grade classroom at the back of the school. Stan called 911, firefighters were on site within minutes and the fire was contained. By the time staff and students arrived, fire crews and the fire investigator had departed, Cleveland School was in operation, and 30 students in need of a classroom were relocated to Room 21. Thank you Stan for your quick response!
