When the community is in crisis, as occurred during recent fires, the Santa Barbara School Districts school site staff and district administrators worked round the clock to make sure that students were safe and also respond to the community’s needs for shelter for displaced families, housing for firefighters, and landing sites for firefighting helicopters.
In recognition of that service, the American Red Cross presented the districts with The Good Neighbor Award “for having made significant humanitarian contributions in support of the American Red Cross.” A Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition was provided by Congresswoman Lois Capps for “recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community.” California State Assembly member Pedro Nava awarded the districts with a Certificate of Recognition “for generous acts of selflessness and for outstanding contributions that strengthen our community.”
