Today the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee announced the winners of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay and Poetry Contest for young people in Santa Barbara. Anti-Defamation League Associate Regional Director Jackie Reid said, “We would like to commend the teachers who participated in this project and all of the students for the excellent heart-felt work they submitted. We hope that this contest brought more awareness and consideration of the impact Martin Luther King, Jr. made and continues to make in our lives as well as promoting the importance of working together in a peaceful, inclusive, and respectful way.”

PROSE: 2nd PRIZE FOR GRADES 1 – 6
Natalie Mohr/Roosevelt/6th grade/Mrs. Ostroff
PROSE: 2nd PRIZE FOR GRADES 1 – 6
Coleman Mortensen/Washington School/2nd Grade/Ms. P. Steele
POETRY: 2nd PRIZE FOR GRADES 1 – 6

Madison Pickett/Washington School/6th Grade/Ms. Duke/Ms.Grosch
In addition, the Anti-Defamation League created the Anti-Defamation League’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for Prose and Poetry for two students of any grade level whose prose or poetry not only reflected the theme of the contest, but also supports the mission of the League.
