Ballet Santa Barbara’s recent 16-week dance residency for second graders at Roosevelt Elementary School will be showcased on Wednesday, January 20, at 6pm at the Lobero Theatre. The Lobero Theatre Foundation has generously opened its doors for the Roosevelt students. The event not only celebrates the hard work of the second graders, but kicks off a new partnership between the Lobero Theatre Foundation and Ballet Santa Barbara (BSB) in support of free, contemporary ballet concerts at the Lobero, to the children and schools of our community. The first concerts are scheduled for the fall of 2010.
For the occasion, each of the four classes will perform a short dance to live music composed especially for them by BSB music director, Eric Valinsky. In addition, BSB dancer, Mary Tarpley will perform a new solo choreographed by Ballet Santa Barbara’s artistic director, Carrie Diamond, with an original score by Valinsky.
