At a ceremony this morning, a memo of understanding was signed by UCSB Chancellor Dr. Henry Yang, Santa Barbara School Districts’ Superintendent Dr. Brian Sarvis, Harding principal Dr. Sally Kingston and faculty representative Carol Schwyzer, Gevirtz School of Education’s Dean Dr. Jane Close Conoley and faculty representative Dr. Willis Copeland, and Harding School Student Body President Natalie Jiminez, symbolizing the partnership between Harding and the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Harding's name will change to Harding University Partnership School.

The entire student body and staff attended the event and then continued planned activities on the UCSB campus. Groups of K-6 students and their escorts fanned out to buildings across campus and participated in grade-appropriate activities. For example, grade 4 participated in “Ultimate Science Exploration,” presented by the California Nanosystems Institute; grade 5 participated in “It’s A Material World,” presented by the Materials Research Laboratory/Engineering, or “Minerals and Maps,” presented by the Earth Science Department, or “Archeology in Action,” presented by the Repository for Archeological and Ethnographic Collections in the Department of Anthropology; and Grade 6 participated in “An Ocean View of the World,” presented by the Marine Science Institute.
