Health Now is a new club on the Dos Pueblos High School campus

Submitted by Amanda Wells, Dos Pueblos High School student

Student members, along with their teacher advisor Monica Scafide, are focused on spreading awareness about healthy eating. All members of the club had the desire to encourage healthy eating on Dos Pueblos High School’s campus, but the club’s formation was catalyzed by recent district policy. The Santa Barbara School Districts’ relatively new policies on campus food are designed to make more nutritious food available to students. Health Now is encouraging these efforts by becoming more familiar with the DP cafeteria, local organic growers, and the way that this district policy is implemented. The club hopes that through increased awareness about healthy eating options DP students will make healthier eating choices. Health Now is also considering combining their efforts with the DP Permaculture Club. Permaculture is a type of food production focused on mimicking natural systems to reduce waste that may result from food production. Both these clubs want to improve the quality of both the food and environment of the Dos Pueblos campus.
