Draft Action Plan for special education

In April 2009 the Financial Crisis & Management Assistance Team came to the districts to review the Special Education Program. Various recommendations were made. After accepting the report, the board of education appointed a stakeholder group comprised of board members, administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents, and community members. The stakeholder group continues to meet. In turn, four subgroups have been established that will be responsible for developing action plans. Special education’s Executive Director Tom Guajardo said, “It is with great pride that we report that 45 of these recommendations are in progress. An additional 16 have been completed and will continue to be addressed over multiple years (e.g., annual staffing changes based on the number students served). Six recommendations have been completed and require no further action.”

We want to extend our appreciation to our board of education, stakeholder group, and subgroups for their dedication to improving education for our special education students.
