A message from elementary district librarian Nancy Tobin
This event, coinciding with Dr. Seuss’s birthday, is the perfect occasion to celebrate his fanciful, rhyming world. Anyone who is a kid, or has ever been a kid, is familiar with Dr. Seuss. Most of us learned to read with his books. During the last week of February and the first few weeks of March, elementary schools all over Santa Barbara will be celebrating Read Across America Day. Schools are having read-a-thons, poster contests, and guest readers to motivate children to read and generate enthusiasm for reading:
Harding School is hostied their annual Read Across America celebration this morning from 8:30 to 12:00 with guest readers, a door decorating contest, and guest readers from the community in every class. This year’s theme is I can go anywhere (with books)! and readers will take students to some of their favorite places.
Roosevelt is, once again, hosting Read With Roosevelt on Friday, March 12. Readers from the community spend part of their day, sharing a favorite children’s book with a group of students. Every class has several readers from all walks of life demonstrating their love of books.
