La Colina Junior High School’s “A Walk Through the Middle Ages” living history exhibit will take place this Thursday, March 18, from 9a.m. to noon in the west campus parking lot.
All seventh-grade GATE and Honors classes at La Colina have been engaged in researching various topics on what life was like during the Middle Ages in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Students write an extensive research paper and then work in groups with other students who have similar topics to create an outdoor exhibit where students demonstrate their knowledge of their particular subject area. The culminating activity is called “A Walk Through the Middle Ages.” Students’ research and creativity are demonstrated in booths that depict topics such as daily life of peasants and nobility, the influence of religion, growth of cities, food and farming, weaponry, and cultural influences of the period.
This year, more than 800 elementary school children from Monte Vista, Hope, Mountain View, Hollister, El Camino, Vieja Valley, and Open Alternative will view the exhibition. The public is invited to this free event.
