At tonight’s board meeting, Superintendent Brian Sarvis announced the resignation of Special Education Executive Director Tom Guajardo, effective June 30, 2010. Mr. Guajardo is leaving the district for personal reasons. He has been with the school district since August 24, 2009.
Superintendent Sarvis announced the appointment of Dr. Kerri Mills, currently the director of special education for the Santa Barbara Elementary School District, as the new executive director for special education. Superintendent Sarvis said, “We will develop a transition plan. Dr. Mills will not formally take over the reins until July 1, 2010. I will be asking the board to ratify the action at an upcoming board meeting.”
The districts’ Personnel Department will begin advertising now for a new special education director. “There is simply too much work to be done to leave the position unfilled and it is important that we keep our change process moving forward,” added Superintendent Sarvis.
