The Fighting Back Youth Service Specialists are working hard to organize the annual Free 4 the Weekend campaign (April 16-18). Free 4 the Weekend is a community campaign sponsored by Fighting Back, in which teens throughout the South Coast pledge to be alcohol, tobacco, and other drug free. Teens receive black wristbands and a guidebook of free weekend community activities, freebies, and discounts from local businesses that are encouraging and supporting youth in being drug free. Free 4 the Weekend will kick off with SPARC, a youth-led town hall meeting aimed at reducing underage drinking. SPARC will take place at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center, 1118 E. Cabrillo, on Thursday, April 15, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. It will be an interactive night with teen performances and activities to motivate and encourage teens to find healthy alternatives to drinking alcohol. Parents and other adults are encouraged to attend to support the teens. There will be free food starting at 5:00 and the town hall will be followed by an ice cream social that lasts until 9 pm. Over the weekend there will be many other free activities such as a movie night, battle of the bands, basketball, YES! Fair, yoga, martial arts classes, and free teen admittance to the YMCA, Natural History Museum, Boys and Girls Clubs, and the IV and 1235 Teen Centers.
