Free 4 the Weekend Writing Contest winners

Students at each of the districts’ secondary schools were invited to enter the Free 4 the Weekend Writing Contest. Winner's photos and writing excerpts will be published in the Daily Sound newspaper. The winners are:

• Dos Pueblos High School: Alexa Canova- Parker (Grand Prize Winner)
• San Marcos High School: Henry Kilgore
• Santa Barbara High School: Jennifer Navarro
• Goleta Valley Junior High School: Alexander Garcia
• La Colina Junior High School: Angie Esparza
• La Cumbre Junior High School: Ana Rosales
• Santa Barbara Junior High School: Claudia Sainz

Following is Alexa Canova-Parker’s winning entry: “I choose to be drug free for many reasons. As an athlete, it is important for me to take care of my body so I can perform to the best of my abilities. As a student, I need my brain to function properly so I can focus on my work and get good grades. As a person, I want to prepare myself for a successful future and continue to be a role model to my peers. As a friend, I want to be able to help others when they are in need, respond quickly if they are in danger, and provide them with accurate advice. My drug free lifestyle reflects my positive attributes. And I will keep it that way.”
