April 11 to 17 is National Library Week. To celebrate, and to promote reading, schools across the state are participating in the California Read-A-Thon. The California Read-A-Thon was created and organized by Helen Murdoch, teacher librarian at San Marcos High School. Locally both La Cumbre Junior High School and San Marcos High School will be participating.
The Read-a-Thon will take place on Friday, April 16 and/or Saturday, April 17, 2010. The California Read-A-Thon is an event to get California K-12 students reading for fun, reviewing and reflecting on what they are reading without being graded, and sharing what they are reading with other students throughout the state.
On Friday students are encouraged to devote up to two hours reading to themselves or to others. They may write reviews of the books they read, draw pictures to go with the stories, or they may write about the reading process, all of which will be posted on their school library's blog. On Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., older students will read for up to six hours. They are encouraged to write reviews of the books they read, which will be posted on their school library's blog.
The San Marcos Library will be open from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, April 17 for anyone who wishes to participate in the Read-a-Thon.
