Crystal Apple winners announced

Based on information from the Santa Barbara County Education Office

Each year, outstanding educators from North and South County are identified to receive the 2010 Venoco, Inc. Crystal Apple Educator Awards. This year, the winners will be honored at the annual Education Celebration sponsored by the Teachers Network of the Santa Barbara County Education Office on May 20 at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott in Buellton. Crystal Apple winners receive a special crystal apple plaque and a $500 stipend, provided by the program sponsor, Venoco, Inc.

Nominated for this award by their peers, Crystal Apple winners are recognized for their dedication, their instructional and motivational skills, their ability to challenge and inspire students, and their ability to interact with students, staff, and members of the local community.

“We are so pleased to be able to acknowledge the exceptional work of these outstanding educators,” said County Superintendent Bill Cirone, whose office coordinates the program. “They represent the hundreds of professionals working day in and day out to make a difference for the students of Santa Barbara County.”

This year’s Crystal Apple winners from the Santa Barbara School Districts are:

• Elementary Teacher — Jennifer Gibson, Adams School
• Secondary Teacher — Desa Mandarino, San Marcos High School
• Certificated Support Provider — Debra Teton, La Cuesta High School
• Administrator — Kathleen Abney, Principal, La Cuesta High School
