The 48th annual University of Nevada, Reno Jazz Festival, featuring the Bill Holman Big Band, was held April 22-24, 2010. Since its inception in 1962, the festival and its sponsor, the University of Nevada, Reno, have hosted some of the finest jazz students, musicians and educators in the country.
San Marcos High’s jazz band placed fifth in the AAA division with all superior ratings from the judges. The group was also given recognition for three outstanding soloists: Miles Napier, Tyler Dolin, and Aaron Dutton.
Dos Pueblos High’s big band and two combos performed beautifully and earned “Outstanding Musicianship” certificates for six of its students: Mariel Bildsten, Daniel Henry, Jack Kessel, Julian Hall, Miles Rouzer, and Sean Dishman.
Students Alexis Escobedo and Santino Tafarella, members of the Dos Pueblos Jazz Choir and Combo, earned Outstanding Musicianship awards at the festival.
