San Marcos High School is the $5,000 Grand Prize Winner in the Increase Your Green national campaign, launched by Hewlett Packard and DoSomething.org. According to the DoSomething.org, San Marcos was among the schools recognized for “…reforming their school’s eco-toxic habits with student led projects. These teens raised awareness, launched new programs, and used the power of technology to green their schools!”
So, how did they do it? Their 10-point plan included collecting 3,500 bottles and creating a traveling visual display to raise awareness about the number of discarded plastic bottles thrown away every second in the US, hosted a school-wide assembly on climate change, and initiating energy audits at their school. Visit DoSomething.org to see the 10-point plan.
