AVID Senior Celebration today at 4:30 at Santa Barbara Junior High
All of the AVID seniors, plus friends and family, from Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, and Santa Barbara high schools will attend a 4:30 p.m. celebration at the Marjorie Luke Theatre, Santa Barbara Junior High. Most of the students have been in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program for 3-4 years. It is the district’s first full set of AVID seniors, meaning they have been in AVID for at least three years. There will be approximately 85 students and the three AVID teachers: Dave Haggerty, Dos Pueblos High School; Vicki Hanes, San Marcos High School, and Joseph Velasco, Santa Barbara High School. Ninety-five percent of the seniors have all been accepted to two or more universities/colleges. The schools that they have been accepted to will be announced as they cross the stage.
Keynote speaker for the event is Barbara Ibarra Keyani, the districts’ coordinator of administrative services and communications.
