A unique opportunity for some 200 students will take place at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon at San Marcos High School. Students invited from video, history, theatre, photography, and social studies classes at Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, and Santa Barbara high schools will gather in the auditorium for a one-hour session with award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns. A question-and-answer period will follow a talk by Mr. Burns.
This opportunity is made possible by UCSB Arts & Lectures and the Orfalea Foundations.
UCSB Arts & Lectures education outreach programs enrich the lives of more than 20,000 students in our community each year. A special event to raise funds for the education outreach programs will take place at 5 p.m. when UCSB Arts & Lectures presents its 50th anniversary season closing night benefit event: “Sharing the American Experience, An Evening with American Legend Ken Burns” at the Coral Casino, Santa Barbara.
Kate Love of the Orfalea Foundations noted, “In honor of UCSB Arts & Lectures’ 50th Anniversary, the Orfalea Foundations are proud to sponsor an evening with legendary documentarian Ken Burns, as well as an inspirational opportunity for local high school students with a passion for history and film to engage with the filmmaker.”
