San Marcos High School’s Earth Club will be receiving $5,000 from the Alliance for Climate Education to fund two filtered water bottle refill stations for their school. Additionally, DoSomething.org awarded the club the national grand prize of $5,000 and four HP laptops out of thousands of schools that applied for the organization’s “Increase Your Green” campaign. DoSomething.org and Hewlett-Packard will be honoring the club in a congratulatory video that will air on the school’s news show, Royal Report, this Friday at 9:45 a.m. Included in the message will be congratulatory words from world-renowned environmentalist David de Rothschild via Skype from his boat Plastiki made of plastic bottles.

Congratulations to co-president Rachel Venturino for her grant awards and to the club its environmental efforts. The club members wish to thank the San Marcos special education program, La Colina Junior High, Santa Barbara High, Santa Barbara Junior High, and UCSB for their help collecting 3,500 plastic bottles for the club's display at the Community Environment Council’s Earth Day 2010 Festival. Proceeds from the plastic bottle collection will be donated to the school’s special education program. According to Ms. Venturino, the Earth Club will also gift one of the laptops to the special education program. Learn more about the club’s efforts at http://www.dosomething.org/increase_your_green
