Open Alternative School (OAS) has been working with the National Association of Mental Illness and Pacific Pride Foundation on respecting the rights of others. OAS is the first school in the districts to implement the Mental Illness Awareness curriculum. The goal of the course is to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness, encourage children to talk to their teachers and parents about emotions, as well as develop empathy for individuals with mental illness. Pacific Pride's workshop addressed gay and lesbian issues and rights in our society.
