AVID Write-Off winners for Santa Barbara County 2010
Congratulations to the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) winners of the annual timed writing contest open to AVID students across Region 8. The students spent about 2-3 months focusing on this year's theme on world leaders and what it means to be a leader. The students practice a variety of reading and writing strategies, complete research, and conduct Socratic seminars. They are then given a prompt and 45 minutes to write. All of the essays are graded using the California State University rubric. Our district’s winners are listed below.
- First place, grade12: Andrea Leon, San Marcos High School
- Second place, grade 11: Annel Becerra, San Marcos High School
- First place, grade 10: Alejandrina Lorenzano, San Marcos High School
- Second place, grade 8: Leticia Zuniga, Santa Barbara Junior High School
- Second place, grade 7: Stephanie Pacheco, Santa Barbara Junior High School
