How does a school theatre influence student learning?

How does a school theatre affect learning opportunities for students and the community? Visit www.luketheatre.org for information on the renovated Marjorie Luke Theatre at Santa Barbara Junior High School.

Marjorie Luke Theatre renovations were made possible because of $3.2 million in Measure V2000 bond funds; programs were enhanced by more than $430,000 in donations from the Community Youth Performing Arts Center. Actor Anthony Edwards, a former Santa Barbara Junior High student, supported the theatre’s facilities and program needs with a $500,000 donation.

The theatre was completed in 2003 and is used for school assemblies as well as band, English, history, math, physical education, science, show choir, theatre, and video production classes. While Santa Barbara Junior High is the majority user, today more than 140 arts and educational organizations make their home at the Luke, providing unique learning experiences for students and linking the school to the surrounding community.
