The opening reception for Santa Barbara High’s Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) annual spring student art show takes place tomorrow, Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ridley-Tree Education Center at McCormick House, 1600 Santa Barbara Street.
Viewers will see a cross section of VADA’s three-year program with a presentation that reflects their mastery, creativity, personal style, and artistic vision.
Director and teacher Daniel Barnett says, “VADA is a school-within-a-school that integrates college-bound coursework with career-focused art instruction. In a tight-knit learning community, students, their teachers, parents, and industry professionals join together to provide a solid academic and artistic foundation that will propel participants into a fulfilling and creative future.” He adds, “In addition to academic and artistic classes, VADA students benefit from an enriched program that includes smaller class sizes, technology access and training, visits to galleries and art museums, visiting artists, and community-based volunteer opportunities. Mentor and internships are offered through the many prominent local art institutions and organizations as well as with local businesses in the creative sector, to provide students with hands-on experience.”
