ICAN Art Exhibitions on First Thursday, May 3
Two wonderful ICAN (Incredible Children’s Art Network) art exhibits will take place this Thursday, May 3, 2012:
- “Oooh! Picasso,” 5:00-7:00 p.m., Art is Vital Gallery at the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery, 15 West Gutierrez Street, by Harding University Partnership School students. Reception this Thursday, with delicious treats, refreshments, art, music, and fun. ICAN art teachers Sophie Cohan and Carissa are providing ICAN instruction at Harding.
- “Art and Music Collaboration at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art,” 5:30-7:30 p.m., Santa Barbara Museum of Art Back Plaza, by students from Franklin Elementary School. There will be more than 500 pieces of artwork as well as four pieces of music performed by approximately 55 Franklin ICAN music students. According to Franklin School ICAN teaching artist/Santa Barbara Museum of Art teaching artist Shannon McCain Jaffe, “This is a very exciting opportunity for the Franklin Students. We are thrilled to collaborate with the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. The Museum has provided us with beautiful images from their collections. The student artworks are inspired by the ‘Pasadena to Santa Barbara Collection, A Selected History of Art in Southern California, 1951-1969.’ But, several grades have also focused on other collections, including two Georges Rouault pieces, and an Andre Derain still life.” ICAN teachers Shannon McCain Jaffe and Adam Johnston are providing ICAN instruction at Franklin Elementary School.
These are free events and open to the public.
