2012 CIF Academic Awards
Yesterday, May 1, 2012, winners of the annual CIF Southern Section Academic Award program were honored at a pre-game ceremony before the Los Angeles Angels game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
There were 1,323 team entries received in all sports for the 2011-2012 school year. The team awards are based on a cumulative grade point average (GPA) in 22 sports. To be considered, teams must have a minimum 3.0 GPA average (on a 4.0 scale) in college-prep courses in the first semester of the 2011-12 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport determines the winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories: enrollment of 1,500 or more or enrollment of less than 1,500. [Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, and Santa Barbara High all compete in the “enrollment division greater than 1,500”]. The team with the highest GPA in each enrollment category for each sport receives the award.
Schools with the highest GPA in their enrollment division for each sport were designated “Champions.” Our three comprehensive high schools received that designation in several sports and a number of teams were recognized for their high GPAs.
