Goleta Valley Junior High’s International Festival Next Week
Goleta Valley Junior High School’s annual International Festival will take place May 7-11, 2012. The purpose of this five-day event is to focus on and celebrate the diversity of the school’s student body. In all, Goleta Valley Junior High students and families come from over 44 different countries around the world.
From Monday through Thursday the school will celebrate cultures from various regions during the lunch period, according to the following schedule:
- Monday, May 7/Middle East-Africa: African and Middle Eastern music.
- Tuesday, May 8/Europe, including Russia: flamenco dancing by Linda Vega.
- Wednesday, May 9/Asia and the Pacific Islands: Chinese Kung Foo dance, henna tattoos, and origami demonstrations.
- Thursday, May 10/The Americas (North, Central and South America and the Caribbean): Brazilian jiu jitsu and salsa dancing.
Then, at lunchtime (12:09-12:40 p.m.) on Friday, May 11, students and staff will sample cuisines from around the world at the cafeteria/International Food Court. On display will be flags from around the world, including those from the 44 countries of Goleta Valley Junior High School’s families.
