Update: Food Services Department’s Summer Food Service Program

Our Summer Food Service Program completed its first week of operation and is going well. Food Services Director Nancy Weiss reports that her team is serving about 1,800 meals per day at seven sites. This year Food Services added mid-afternoon snacks to the lineup. There is no cost for children ages 18 and under and handicapped adults.

With 50 percent of our elementary school students and 40 percent of our secondary school students qualifying for free- and reduced-meals, access to the Summer Food Service Program is supporting the needs of children in our community.

This program is funded through the National School Lunch Program and is being done in partnership with the city’s department of Parks and Recreation.
