Semifinalists and Commended Students in the 2004 National Merit Scholarship Program
In the 49th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, 16,000 semifinalists from the Class of 2004 were identified from a field of more than 1.3 million juniors who entered the program. Students were selected based on their scores in the 2002 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Twenty of those semifinalists are from the Santa Barbara High School District. Once identified, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to finalist standing and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award. Finalists will be announced in the spring.
Additionally, 39 district students received letters of commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
