San Marcos High Inaugurates Newly Renovated Auditorium with Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona
San Marcos High School’s Performing Arts Department inaugurates the newly renovated auditorium with Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Three performances are scheduled: November 18, 19, and 20, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. General admission is $10, $6 for students and senior citizens, and $6 for Royal Card holders. The public is invited.
The new facility is the perfect setting for Shakespeare’s five-act play about love, friendship, and intrigue. With a rich cast of characters, the story centers on Proteus and Valentine (two genetlemen from Verona), suitors of the lovely Julia and Silvia. Some iterary sources suggest that The Two Gentlemen of Verona was Shakespeare’s first play and a precursor to As You Like It and Twelfth Night.
The auditorium upgrades, funded through the March 2000, passage of Measure V, a general obligation bond, include state-of-the-art light and sound systems, refurbished seats, new floor treatments, new and expanded stage rigging, new heating/ventilating system, and improved handicap accessibility. With beautifully detailed interiors, the design elements are reminiscent of Art Deco theaters of the past. Images of the new facility can be found on the Measure V section of the Santa Barbara School Districts’ web site.
