Interim Principal Matt Zuchowicz to Serve as Principal of Adams Elementary School

To address a school site administrative need, on January 18, 2005, Matt Zuchowicz was selected to serve as the interim principal of Adams Elementary School. The position at Adams was open when former principal Jo Ann Caines moved to La Cumbre Junior High School. The search for a permanent principal began when the position was open for applications in late-March and April; final interviews were then conducted. On May 24, 2005, the Board of Education announced the selection of Mr. Zuchowicz as the new principal of Adams, effective immediately.

Matt Zuchowicz spent his early childhood in Mexico City. Following the family’s move to Santa Barbara, he attended Peabody, Santa Barbara Junior High, and Santa Barbara High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies at Yale University and an administrative credential at U.C. Santa Barbara. Over the years, he taught bilingual education at McKinley Elementary School, served as a library media specialist at Peabody Charter, ran the Santa Barbara County Education Office’s “Computers for Families” program, and at one point served as their director of instructional media services. Mr. Zuchowicz worked as Franklin Elementary School’s assistant principal from August 30, 2004 until he joined Adams in January 2005 as the interim principal.

The fun-filled event will be held at La Casa De La Raza, 601 East Montecito Street, Santa Barbara, CA.

According to Ron Zecher, HIPPY director, “The event will honor mothers; celebrate family; and empower families through education, knowledge, and learning new skills.” Zechner continued, “Moms and dads of at-risk kids in Santa Barbara are committed to starting their children’s school careers on the right foot. In the HIPPY program, families work together to provide their children with the skills they need to succeed in kindergarten.”
