Classified salary schedule, range 36. Initial placement shall be determined according to training and experience; maximum salary placement will be at mid-range. This position is covered by employee selected insurance plan. Benefits include holidays, vacation and sick leave.
Under the direction of a secondary school administrator, performs liaison between the school, parents, and community resources, working directly with individual students and/or student groups, who are minority; and to do related work as required. Bilingual Spanish fluency required.
Serves as liaison between school and community; visits homes to check on reasons for student absences, to ensure all school-age children are enrolled in schools, and to recruit parent volunteers; attends school meetings and may record minutes; acts as participant and translator in a variety of meetings between parents, students, teachers, and other officials; composes and translates materials such as memoranda, bulletins, and newsletters into Spanish; serves as liaison between school and resource agencies in community; performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience related to assignment.
Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to read, write and understand English and Spanish; knowledge of community and minority groups; ability to relate warmly to minority students, parents, and community organizations and resources; ability to work cooperatively with others.
Licenses and Other Requirements: Possession of a valid California Driver License. Must pass district bilingual proficiency exam.
