Under the general supervision of the coordinator of research and evaluation, the database programmer is responsible for data analysis and reports for the district’s assessment results as well as administrative and evaluation studies. The database programmer is responsible for systems design, report development, maintenance, and hardware and software applications.
Write or design software to assist in maintaining data integrity and create edit lists and identify data corruption; collaborate with information services staff to provide technical software and hardware support for other systems to resolve data exchange issues and to install, maintain and troubleshoot client-server software and server operating systems; provide data collection, organization, compilation, integration, and analysis of results for educational data including the district’s assessment programs; prepare administrative and evaluation studies; design reports and data retrieval systems for district and state assessments; design or use existing computer programs to assist in automating reports for state and federal program compliance; provide student information systems and other database assessment data loading and reporting including student demographic and program information; use appropriate statistical procedures. Assist and/or direct staff with various complex data entry functions, creation of Excel reports, and other statistical reports as required. Run SPSS and other statistical packages, and other functions supporting research and evaluation projects.
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and at least one year of computer technology or information systems coursework at an accredited institution or equivalent experience. Experience working with school districts and some understanding of schools and how they function; research office or testing programs. Experience in CSIS, CBEDS, Aeries, Testing Pre-ID preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of computer systems, networking, mainframe and PC hardware and software, systems design and programming skills in addition to knowledge of statistics, data analysis, data interpretation and research design; knowledge of SPSS, Excel, Access, SASI and Report Mate; database management, and basic descriptive and inferential statistics. Experience exercising quality control over data collection, maintenance and analysis for the district’s assessment system, required state and federal reports and evaluation. Ability to communicate clearly with end users and colleagues; design assessment and evaluation reports of quantitative data; design state-of-the-art computer systems for compiling, integrating and reporting data. Upgrade knowledge and skills through continued coursework, conferences, etc.
Physical Abilities: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; seeing to view a computer monitor; hearing and speaking to exchange information; lifting and carrying moderately heavy equipment; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
