Job Description: Multi-Skilled Tradesman, Electrical with Plumbing

Salary

Classified salary schedule, range 49. Initial placement shall be determined according to training and experience; maximum salary placement will be at mid-range. This position is covered by employee selected insurance plan. Benefits include holidays, vacation and sick leave.

Definition

Under the direction of the maintenance supervisor, perform a variety of skilled journey-level work required to install, maintain, alter and repair electrical system; perform semi-skilled plumbing work. Assure compliance of work with applicable codes, health and safety regulations.

Examples of Duties

Install bell, clock and lighting circuits, electrical control equipment, conduit and duct systems and other types of electrical and power systems and equipment. Interpret electrical plans and specifications and check for compliance with codes, regulations and safety orders. Install computer cable, telephone and intercom wire and switches. Work from plans, sketches, blueprints or other instructions. Design new electrical system and installations as assigned. Install, service, and replace plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings and equipment.Perform semi-skilled mechanical maintenance work in the installation and alteration of plumbing fixtures and systems including potable and reclaimed water, sewer and gas; work from blueprints and sketches. Install sewer lines and laterals, gas regulators, hot water heaters, drinking fountains, faucets, toilets and other equipment and systems. Assist in preparation of estimates of time and material required for new construction and repair. Assist other multi-skilled tradesmen with installation and modification projects. May perform restricted routine maintenance functions as needed. Maintain records and prepare reports for work done and material used. Perform related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and four years journey-level electrical experience with knowledge of plumbing systems.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of tools and methods used in electrical installation; electrical terms, materials and circuits used in buildings; portable hand tools; National Electric Code and Electrical Safety. Ability to use electrical tools and equipment skillfully and safely; read and follow plans and specifications for electrical and plumbing work; perform semi-skilled work in the installation and alteration of plumbing systems and related equipment; work cooperatively with others.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record to qualify for insurability by the district's insurance carrier.

Physical Abilities: Climbing ladders; standing for extended periods of time; lifting heavy objects, pushing or pulling; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various tools, vehicles and equipment used in electrical work; bending at the waist; kneeling or crouching.
