Job Description: School Financial Technician

SALARY

Classified salary schedule, range 39. Initial placement shall be determined according to training and experience; maximum salary placement will be at mid-range. This position is covered by employee selected insurance plan. Benefits include holidays, vacation and sick leave.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform technical accounting and related statistical work in compiling, reviewing, maintaining and reporting financial data related to ASB and other school accounts; audit and write checks for invoices in a timely manner.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Perform technical accounting and related statistical work in compiling, reviewing, maintaining and reporting financial data related to ASB and other school accounts. Audit and write checks for invoices in a timely manner. Collect and receipt ASB monies and prepare deposits; enter receipts into appropriate accounting software program; reconcile ASB accounts; audit ASB deposits made to ASB account. Prepare and sell various tickets including bus, football and other tickets. Prepare various reports regarding ASB accounts, school and District accounts, tickets, use and sales tax report and other reports as requested; prepare and maintain W-9 records and reports. Collect student indebtedness for books and other materials and maintain related records; process and collect on NSF checks. Process, monitor and maintain school and district requisitions and purchase orders; maintain files related to purchases. Prepare budget transfers and other budget-related documents; monitor and control expenditures of assigned accounts; audit monthly appropriation ledger for accuracy; make budget amendments as needed. Operate a computer and applicable software; operate other office equipment including an adding machine, facsimile, printer, typewriter and others as assigned. Assist students, teachers, staff and others as needed in areas such as ASB cards, yearbook sales, PE clothes, ordering materials, tickets and related matters; provide technical assistance to teachers and administrators and interpret and explain laws, regulations, contracts, policies and procedures. Close the ASB books at the end of the year. Receive and distribute deliveries to the school. Perform related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to two years college-level course work in accounting or related field and three years experience in maintaining financial or statistical records.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and budgeting principles, practices and procedures; preparation, review and control of ASB and assigned accounts; operation of a computer terminal and assigned software; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; financial and statistical record-keeping techniques; applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable policies and procedures related to assigned activities. Ability to perform technical accounting and related statistical work in compiling, reviewing, maintaining and reporting financial data related to ASB and other school accounts; prepare, develop, monitor and maintain financial statements and reports; perform auditing work; read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures; maintain accurate financial and statistical records; verify, balance and adjust accounts; process and record transactions accurately; add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; meet schedules and time lines; work independently with little direction; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Type at 40 words net per minute from clear copy (verification of typing speed required with application); operate office equipment including a computer and adding machine.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Some positions in this class may be designated as requiring bilingual Spanish fluency and may be required to provide translation in parent-teacher conferences or telephone calls with parents; translate notes, letters and other materials as assigned.

Physical Abilities:Seeing to read a variety of materials.; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information; lifting moderately heavy objects including boxes and coins.
