Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

American College Testing (ACT) PLAN

The ACT PLAN is given to all tenth grade students in the fall. For more information visit the ACT Plan web page.

California English Language Development Test (CELDT)

The CELDT is a required state test for English language proficiency given to students whose primary language is other than English. For more information visit the California Department of Education’s CELDT web page.

California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

All public school students are required to pass the exit exam to earn a high school diploma. For more information, visit the California Department of Education’s CAHSEE web page.

Challenge Exam

High school students may take the challenge exam to fulfill the family health education graduation requirement. For more information, see Administrative Regulation 6146.1 High School Graduation Requirements (pdf).

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

GATE testing for the elementary schools is held January through March, 2011. The deadline for registering for the elementary GATE test is November 22, 2011. Contact your child's school to register. Students who live within the elementary school boundaries but attend a school outside the district should contact Harriet Whaley, hwhaley@sbsdk12.org, (805) 963-4338 x6315

Physical Fitness Test (Grades 5, 7, and 9)

The physical fitness test measures aerobic capacity, body composition, abdominal strength and endurance, trunk extensor strength and flexibility, upper body strength and endurance, and flexibility. Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)

The PSAT is given to all eleventh grade students in the fall. For more information visit the College Board PSAT web page.

Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) (Grades 2 – 11)

STAR test results are used for student and school accountability purposes. The STAR program includes the California Standards Test, an achievement test based on state standards, which assesses English-language arts in grades 2-11, written composition in grades 4 and 7, history-social science in grades 8, 10 and 11, and science in grades 5, 9, 10 and 11. It also includes the California Achievement Test, 6th edition, a nationally normed achievement test which assesses reading/language, spelling, and mathematics in grades 3 and 7.
