California Healthy Kids Survey
In California, Local Education Agencies and county offices of education that accept funds under the federal No Child Left Behind Act’s Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program or the state Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program must administer the California Healthy Kids Survey at least once every two years. The California Healthy Kids Survey is also required of schools that have afterschool programs funded under the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, as part of their evaluation efforts. Currently, California Department of Education districts receiving Title IV or state TUPE grants must administer the California Healthy Kids Survey and the Staff School Climate Survey.
The Santa Barbara School Districts will be administering an abbreviated version of the California Healthy Kids Survey. The abbreviated version of the survey can be obtained from each secondary school principal’s office or viewed online at www.sbsdk12.org
The survey results are useful to the Santa Barbara School Districts for several reasons. First, the districts partner with the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse to provide alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence prevention counselors, and programs for our secondary schools. Second, the survey is a way for the districts to measure the effectiveness of the programs that the districts have on campus. Third, campus safety personnel are partially funded with these monies.
